Self Friendship

Reading all this back and forth about self-love this morning, TeriJo ‘s piece was a breath of fresh air. And it sparked an idea in me, the concept of self friendship.

I suppose self love can be a good thing, but it has always struck my ears surrounded by a cloud of carrion flies: narcissism, navel gazing, smugness, self-righteousness, vanity, etc. (Maybe I’m just overly sensitive in this area.)

I like to think that over the years I have learned to be friends with myself: to like and accept myself despite my flaws; to know my limits and be kind to myself around them; to admit there is room for improvement and help that along; to be there for myself when times are bad; to ask for help for myself if that’s needed.

What do you think?
